Sewer Cleaning in Raleigh

No-Commission Technicians. Three-Time Raleigh’s Best Plumber.

When a main sewer line slows down or backs up, the problem rarely fixes itself. Matthew's Plumbing Solutions provides sewer cleaning for homeowners and commercial clients throughout Raleigh and Wake County, clearing blockages, grease buildup, root intrusion, and debris before a slow drain becomes a full backup. Sewer cleaning covers the main line running from your home to the city connection point, accessed through the sewer cleanout and cleared using hydrojetting or mechanical methods. It’s a distinct service from sewer repair, which addresses structural pipe damage rather than buildup inside an intact line.

We’ve been working in the Raleigh area since 2017. Five fully stocked service vehicles run throughout the Triangle, same-day service is available in most cases, and we provide in-person estimates so you know what to expect before any work begins.

Call us at (919) 769-3924 to schedule sewer cleaning in Raleigh. Same-day appointments are available in most cases, and we can give you a straight answer before we start any work.

Why Raleigh Homeowners Choose Matthew's Plumbing Solutions for Sewer Cleaning

Our technicians don’t earn commissions on parts or services they recommend. That matters when someone is standing under your house telling you what your sewer line needs. Every recommendation reflects what the line actually requires, not what generates additional revenue. It’s a straightforward policy, and it’s one of the reasons we’ve built the reputation we have here.

The News and Observer has voted Matthew's Plumbing Solutions Raleigh’s Best Plumber three consecutive years, from 2022 through 2025. We also hold a Diamond Certified designation in Wake County, a recognition based on verified customer satisfaction. Owner Matthew Walls stays actively involved in quality control and day-to-day operations, and he holds certifications in Plumbing Class I, Backflow Prevention, Residential Fire and Sprinkler Installation, and Well Pump systems.

Warning Signs Your Sewer Line Needs Cleaning

A single slow drain usually points to a clog in that branch line. When multiple drains in different rooms back up or drain slowly at the same time, the main sewer line is typically the source. Other signs worth acting on include gurgling sounds from fixtures you’re not using, sewage odors inside or outside the home, water backing up into a tub or floor drain, and patches of yard above the sewer line that stay unusually wet or green.

In Raleigh, these symptoms often surface after heavy rain. Older lines affected by root intrusion can take on groundwater during wet periods, which accelerates the backup. Toilets that need frequent plunging and slow drains across multiple rooms are early indicators worth addressing before a full blockage develops.

How Sewer Cleaning Works

Most sewer cleaning starts at the sewer cleanout, a capped access pipe that provides a direct entry point into the line. Using the cleanout, our technicians can run equipment into the main line without excavating your yard. For most blockages and buildup, that’s all that’s needed.

We use hydrojetting to clear the line: high-pressure water scours the interior pipe walls, breaking up grease buildup, mineral deposits, and root intrusion more thoroughly than a cable machine alone. For softer blockages, mechanical snaking may be sufficient. After clearing the line, we confirm flow is restored before leaving. When a camera inspection reveals cracked, collapsed, or severely damaged pipe sections, cleaning won’t resolve the problem, and repair work is needed instead.

Why Raleigh Sewer Lines Need Attention

Piedmont red clay soil expands and contracts with seasonal moisture changes. Over time, that movement shifts older sewer laterals and opens pipe joints to root intrusion from the mature oaks and pines common throughout Raleigh neighborhoods.

Pipe Materials by Era

Pre-1950 homes in established intown areas often carry original clay tile pipes. Homes built between the 1950s and early 1970s typically have cast iron, which accumulates scale and debris more readily than newer materials. Newer construction in areas like North Raleigh generally uses PVC, which resists roots but can develop bellied sections in clay-heavy fill soil where debris collects.

Your Responsibility for the Sewer Lateral

It’s also worth knowing where your responsibility ends. The City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department maintains the public sewer main, but homeowners are responsible for the sewer lateral from the home to the connection with the public main, including any section that runs under a sidewalk or street. Properties in Garner face similar clay soil and root intrusion conditions, and we serve that area as part of our regular service territory.
